Getting To Know Us
Why We Will be Great Parents
![]() |
We love being parents! Since Elida’s arrival in the fall of 2006, we have truly enjoyed our time together as a family. Doug is great with Elida! They love to play games together and read books. Each week, Doug takes Elida to her swimming lessons. When the weather is nice, they go to the park or work in the garden. In the winter, they love to play in the snow and go sledding. Doug is a very attentive and loving father. He sets a good example for Elida in all that he does. Kate is a very affectionate and patient mother. She and Elida like to sing together and do art projects. Another of their favorite activities is baking bread, cakes and cookies. Kate knows how to make learning fun and is a wonderful role model for Elida. Above all, we believe we are good parents because we work well as a team. We do our best to provide a wide variety of opportunities for Elida, including music, athletics, arts and of course a quality education. We are a bilingual family, so we speak both Spanish and English in the home. In addition to teaching Elida both languages, we also find ways for her to explore Hispanic culture. In particular, we teach her about Guatemalan traditions, since she is from Guatemala. |

Our Child
Elida came into our lives 2 ½ years ago, and has been the heart of our family ever since. We can’t imagine our lives without her. She was born in Mazatenango, Guatemala on October 18, 2005. As we waited for the adoption process to take place, she lived in Guatemala City in the care of an amazing foster family. When she came home with us in August of 2006, our lives were forever changed for the better. From the first second we held her in our arms, she became part of our forever family. Over the past 2 ½ years, we have watched her grow and become the friendly, energetic and loving three-year-old that she is now. She loves to sing, dance, paint, draw, read and play soccer. She brings life and love to our family and touches the lives of everyone she meets. |
