Making the First Impression

“You never get a second chance to make a first impression." Within the first three seconds of a new encounter, you are evaluated. You make an indelible impression. First encounters are extremely important, as they set the tone for the relationship that follows. The key to a good first impression is to present yourself appropriately. Adoption Angels knows how wonderful our adoptive parents are and want our birth parents to know as well.

Composing your Birth Parent Letter

Your birth parent letter gives you the opportunity to tell the birth parents anything about yourselves you want them to know. The letter also allows you to explain why you have decided to adopt.  The composition of the letter takes considerable effort. The time, care, and consideration that you invest in the preparation will be apparent to the birth parents. Please review in detail the “Composing your Letter to the Birth Parents” (section VI, pg. 25 of the Adoption Application). You can also use this helpful book, Reaching Out: The Guide to Writing a Terrific Dear Birthmother Letter, by Nelson Handel

Creating your Photo Album

“A picture is worth a thousand words.” This statement could not be truer when it comes to your photo album.  We cannot emphasize enough how significant a role your photo album plays in your being selected by a birth parent. Your photo album should reflect what you have already stated in your birth parent letter. Please look over our Photo Album Examples and review in detail the “Your Photo Album” (section VII, pg.26 of the Adoption Application)

“Parents in Waiting” online profiles

To assist with our many birth parent outreach efforts, we have designed a “Parents in Waiting” web profile. It is designed to help increase your exposure to prospective birth parents. An online profile is not required but it may reduce the waiting time to be matched. To view existing examples, please visit our Parents in Waiting profiles. To begin your own online profile, please download our release letter and profile questions. Your signed release letter can be sent through the postal service or emailed to the agency for processing.

We cannot begin to emphasize how imperative your birth parent letter and photo album are to your being chosen. After reading the information we have made available to you regarding the birth parent letter and photo album please feel free to call as the staff are happy to answer any questions you may have.
