The beach & anywhere I have never been

Benny and I met at work. We were both selling cars at that time. Benny always jokes around and says that for him, it was love at first sight. I had just finished my first two years of college and was taking a semester off. I always joke, saying that the whole reason that I went to work as a car saleswoman was to meet the love of my life. Benny, being the introvert that he was, did not approach me right away. It was not until I needed help in delivering a vehicle that I sold that we started talking. Ever since the day he helped me deliver that vehicle, we have been inseparable. Soon after we met, we stopped working at the car dealership so that we both could attend and finish college. The colleges we attended were close to each other, so were always together. We would go to lunch, study, and explore the college campus together. We had been dating for almost three years when Benny asked me to marry him. And I happily said YES!

We got married a year after I graduated college in a beautiful hotel surrounded by our family and friends. We picked out a place that would hold 200 guests. Coming from large Hispanic families, we needed a place that would accommodate all of our family and friends. Dancing, eating, and listening to the Mariachi filled the rest of the night. Our wedding day could not have been more perfect, surrounded by those we love.

Our Home

We live in a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home with an open concept living space. We live just 5 minutes away from where we work, which makes it easy to come home when needed. Our backyard has a large, covered patio with two sitting areas that are made up of a large outdoor dining table and a sofa. There is also plenty of space for kids to run around and play. We spend most of our time hanging out in the living room or the kitchen, sharing a meal. We love having barbeques and listening to music in the backyard. We live in a very friendly neighborhood in a great school district, and many of our neighbors have kids. Our spare bedroom will soon be our nursery, and we are excited to start decorating and preparing to bring a little one home.

We live in a great city in Texas that’s about 20 minutes outside of Houston. We are surrounded by parks, wonderful restaurants, and great shopping. We are a one-hour drive to Galveston Beach and just 25 minutes away from downtown Houston. There are so many fun things to do, and we can’t wait to take our child to places like the Children’s Museum, the Houston Zoo, and the Houston Downtown Aquarium. We take advantage of living so close to both the city and Galveston Beach. 

In the summer, we enjoy going to the beach and spending time with family and friends. In the fall, we enjoy attending community festivals and going to museums. 

We look forward to sharing these activities with our child. Our immediate community is bike-safe and has water parks, libraries, and all that you can ask for.

My family is very important to me; we spend a lot of time with my parents, sister, and her family. I grew up in a close-knit family with lots of family gatherings. In adulthood, we have maintained this closeness, whether it’s visiting each other’s houses on holidays or attending a cookout together. We have a great time together. My parents also live very close to us, in fact, both of our parents live on the same street. My parents have been married for 42 years and have been supportive of everything I’ve done in my life. My sister, her husband, and my niece and nephew live in Dallas. We see them about four times a year as we love spending time with all of them. We love going to Dallas to watch my niece and nephew play sports. 



My family can’t wait for us to become parents and shower our child with love. Family is a top priority to us, and we are blessed to both have such caring families that we are beyond excited to bring a child into. My family is also very supportive of our dream to adopt and has expressed without reservations that they would love and welcome a baby into our family.

Vanessa's Family

My parents live very close to us and are always there to lend a helping hand. I am very close to my parents, and we love each other so much! My mom loves to cook, and Benny and I enjoy eating the delicious meals that she prepares. As of now, my parents don’t yet have any grandchildren, so they are very excited at the idea of being grandparents. My brother is a huge part of my life, and I love him very much. He lives in Monterrey, Mexico, and Benny and I enjoy visiting him. I have a large extended family with plenty of aunts, uncles, and tons of cousins. They mainly live in Mexico, Brownsville, and Houston. We always try to get together at least once a year. 

As far as I can remember, my family and I would take trips to Mexico to visit our family. I am very thankful that my family did this for me and my siblings because it gave me a better sense of understanding of my culture. We will do the same for whichever ethnic culture our child is from.

Benny & Vanessa - A Look Into Our Life

Meet Our Niece & Nephew

We adore our niece and nephew. They live in Dallas, TX, but we make sure to be present in their lives and visit them multiple times a year. Ashlyn is the eldest and was the first baby on both sides of our families. Watching her grow from a baby to a pre-teen and being part of it has been a blessing, and we will be here to help her navigate the ups and downs of becoming a teenager. Then came Christian, who is a social butterfly and loves to play sports. We travel to watch him play, and it makes us so happy to see him put his time and dedication into what he enjoys. He has a lot of energy and likes to run around. At the same time, he is the politest little boy we know. Both Ashlyn and Christian are super excited and looking forward to a baby cousin! We pour all of our love, affection, and attention into our niece and nephew, and we plan on doing the same with our child.

Our Friends

We are very fortunate to have such caring and amazing friends. They all have blessed us at different points in life and are always there for us when we need them. Our friends are like an extension of our family. When we are together, we love celebrating the holidays and birthdays, cooking, traveling, going out to eat, and cheering on our favorite teams. We enjoy spending time with them all as often as we can and always have a blast! Many of our friends have children, and we are looking forward to all the kids’ parties, picnics, and zoo visits together. They have shared parenting advice and insight to help prepare us. Our friends are just as excited as we are to welcome another member to the group.

Adventures

Together we love to see and experience new places, people, and foods. We love to travel and have gone on many adventures together, from hiking in Monterrey, Mexico, skiing in Virginia, kayaking in Hawaii, and snorkeling in Turks and Caicos. We have also had the opportunity to go to London, Cuba, and Disney World! These trips have only piqued our curiosity about the vast diversity and variety of cultures our beautiful planet has to offer. We travel to Mexico annually and sometimes twice per year. Our favorite places to visit are Cancun, San Diego, and San Antonio. We also enjoy going to different conferences and events around the U.S. to have fun and encourage us. Travel will always be a big part of our lives, and we cannot wait to share the joy of traveling with our child. We are excited to expose our child to diverse cultures through traveling the world.

Family Traditions

We both come from a very large Mexican family, so gatherings can get loud, and there is endless home-cooked Mexican food! We get together to celebrate all special occasions, such as birthdays, and of course, all the Holidays. For Thanksgiving, our tradition is to spend it with Benny’s side of the family. We usually go to his parents’ house and bring our famous green spaghetti, which is a family favorite.

For Christmas, our tradition has been that Benny and I will spend it with my side of the family. We always order tamales, and we have them delivered on Christmas Eve. They are freshly made that day! Besides the tamales, we prepare the Christmas dinner at my aunt’s house. My aunts and my mom are great cooks, so the food is always so delicious! We contract a service where Santa picks up the kids in a sled and takes them riding around the neighborhood. You can hear the Christmas music as the sled approaches my aunt’s house. Everyone always has a blast. The gift exchange is so much fun as my cousin Ivan will tell funny jokes throughout the whole process. When the clock strikes midnight, all family members stand up and hug everyone as we say “Feliz Navidad.” This will take a while since there is a lot of us!
